Our videographer extraordinaire, Bake Phouikham, filmed one of our biggest performances on the Americas Square stage at the 2010 World Expo in Shanghai. Check out our Videos page or click on the individual links below for a look at the whole show!
We also posted a great new promo video for the entire Shanghai trip:
Thirty trips to the washroom, four light naps, seven movies, and fourteen hours later, I find myself on the other side of the world. After a quick exploration in the city, my immediate reaction to Shanghai is that it is extremely clean and modern. The architecture is distinct and leaves a lasting impression.
On Thursday we took a trip to Fudan University to dance and vibe with local Chinese artists and students. The hip hop community in Shanghai has been slowly growing over the years and was definitely represented well at Fudan. One of the most remarkable parts of our experience at Fudan was breaking the communication barrier without even speaking more than a few words. The jam kicked off with dancers and MCs collaborating in a cypher that lasted well over an hour, proving that the voice of hip hop is universally understood.
I look forward to further exploring the city and taking in the rich culture that China has to offer. I am thankful to be part of this experience and project. Today is our first show at the Shanghai Expo and I can’t wait!
B-boys, or b-boying, is not a trend, a fad, or even worse, a hobby! It is a revolution with an impact and scope far beyond comprehension. It can be seen in your friend’s basement over a thin piece of linoleum. Its presence reaches far beyond the borders of our country, and creeps into the depths of even the most remote of places, where b-boys dance with no audience beyond that of their peers. It can be seen at stadiums in China, Korea, and Germany, where battles are held on a stages with the piercing eyes of thousands of spectators.
A b-boy does not simply “dance”; he lives and breathes a culture, inspires and creates, overcomes the challenges of the mental, the physical, bending the limitations of the imagination and defying the laws of gravity.
